Fan Boyang is a visual artist currently dividing his time between Beijing and San Francisco. He received his BFA in Photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) in 2025 and currently pursuing his MFA at California College of the Arts (CCA).
He is interested in the space between recording reality and constructing it. A photograph may appear to document something that happened, but it is always shaped by where he stands, what he chooses to include, the camera and lens he uses, and how the image is later edited and presented. These choices do not only shape the photograph; over time, they also shape the way he sees.
Memory and emotion are important to this process. Fan uses photography not simply to preserve experiences, but to reorganize and reinterpret them. Through his work, he continues to question how photography influences what we see, what we remember, and what we consider worth looking at.
